We accept submissions across a wide variety of mediums: prose, poetry, photography, digital art, traditional art, and any other of your own creations that you love and want to share. Anyone in MCPS is welcome to submit, including local artists, writers, school teachers and staff, and elementary, middle, and high school students.
Submissions for Volume 3 are due MAY 24th, 2024.
1. All written works should be submitted as .pdf files. Artworks should be attached as .png, jpg., or .pdf files. Submissions that are too large to fit into the file upload should be emailed to us at themocoreview@gmail.com
2. Do not submit works that depict or describe excessive gore, violence, or explicit sexual content.
3. All written submissions must be in Calibri size 11 font, unless the use of a different font is a substantial artistic choice. Please note this at the bottom of the form if that is the case.
4. The MoCo Review loves fan content creators, but we cannot publish it. Please do not submit works that feature or depict characters or franchises that do not fall under the public domain.
5. All submitted works should be your own. Please do not submit any writing or artworks that do not belong to you.
Please try to limit your submission to a maximum of 5,000 words. However, you are free to submit higher word counts at your own discretion—we will evaluate these on a case-by-case basis.
We accept other formats including but not limited to: reviews, interviews, flash fiction, plays, dramatic writings, etc. Word counts are more flexible for these formats.
All forms of poetry are welcome—haikus, limericks, free form, prose poems, etc. There is currently no set word limit for poetry, but try to keep it a reasonable length under your own judgement.
We love art! In the event your piece is selected to be featured, your name will always be credited unless you wish to remain anonymous, but also feel free to attach your social media handle and/or website to the submission form and we'll be sure to include the shout out. Please do not submit art that has been already featured as a magazine or journal cover.
We are always looking for the best and most intriguing art from MoCo residents. In illustrated artwork, nudity will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Feel free to submit whatever photos that you may have. If you are submitting pictures of people, please indicate that you have received their consent to be photographed and published. Please do not submit nude photography.
For students, you are welcome to submit works created within the classroom. We love to see it!
Please click on the buttons at the bottom of this page to access the particular Google Form for submitting within the appropriate catergory. If you run into an issue or are unable to access the forms, feel free to email us your submission at themocoreview@gmail.com, including your full name, genre of work, short bio, and the work itself.
We will send an acceptance email to everyone who has made it into the journal about a week after the submission deadline has passed. If you do not receive an email, you were not selected for this season's volume. Don't be discouraged—you could always be in a future volume!
There is no limit to the number of submissions you may send in, but Google Forms only allows up to five attachments at a time. If you wish to submit more, simply submit a separate form.
We reserve the right to publish all work under First North American Rights. Upon publishing, all rights revert back to the author.
You may submit simultaneous works here, but please note it at the bottom of the form or send us an email immediately if it has been accepted/published elsewhere.
We ask all submitters to attach a brief bio to their submissions. Your bio should include your name and grade, and it may also include your high school, other publications you've been a part of, awards you have won, ideas you like to explore, fun facts, and anything else that you find is relevant and/or entertaining. Be creative!
